Will Schrader Allow a Blank Check for More Borrowing From China?
Party Leaders Want Oregon Democrat to Raise Debt Limit Without Spending Cuts

Washington — Opposition to raising the debt ceiling without a plan to stop spending money we don’t have remains high. However, Kurt Schrader’s Democrat leaders are pushing for the opposite, which is a blank check from the American people to continue their Democrat government spending spree. As the government borrows $4 billion every day to pay for a spending binge it cannot afford, Schrader’s party leaders are working hard to garner more support for their incredibly misguided priorities.

“Kurt Schrader’s Democrat leaders are once again demanding a blank check from the American people to continue spending money we do not have,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Despite the overwhelming unpopularity of limitless borrowing from foreign countries like China, Schrader’s party leaders want to continue borrowing $4 billion a day in order to pay for the Democrat spending spree. Will Schrader join his Democrat leaders’ calls to support more endless borrowing that will burden middle class families with more debt?”

A “clean debt limit” bill that raises the debt ceiling with no measures to reduce spending is only supported by one-in-ten voters:

“President Obama’s policy of raising the federal debt limit without any preconditions relating to limiting spending, i.e. a ‘clean debt limit,’ is supported by only one-out-of-ten voters, the least popular option of three presented in a Resurgent Republic survey conducted jointly with the American Action Forum.” (“Voters Want Spending Cuts and Budget Reforms Tied to Debt Limit Increase,” Resurgent Republic, 4/26/11)

Despite this, House Democrat Whip Steny Hoyer says there are more yet-to-be named Democrats who support their unpopular position:

“‘Well, when Mr. Cantor says it doesn’t have enough support, Mr. Welch has 114, of which I’m not one – I would vote for that,’ Hoyer said, referring to Rep. Peter Welch’s (D-Vt.) coalition of Democrats who are calling for a clean vote.” (Jake Sherman, “GOP floats test vote on debt ceiling,” Politico, 5/3/11)

Is Kurt Schrader one of them? His constituents in Oregon understand that borrowing $4 billion a day to pay for Schrader’s spending addiction cannot continue. Unfortunately, Schrader’s Democrat leaders are instead demanding a blank check to continue their government spending spree which we simply cannot afford. Will Schrader join Hoyer in demanding that blank check from the American people that is devoid of any fiscal reform?
