Even Obama Moves Away from Sutton’s Domestic Energy Opposition
Ohio Democrat Continues Extreme Energy Stance Now to the Left of President Obama

Washington — After facing mounting pressure from surging gas prices, President Obama recently conceded that more domestic energy production is needed, leaving fellow Democrat Betty Sutton among the stubborn few who are adamantly opposing serious measures to produce more American energy and create much-needed American jobs. As middle-class families in Ohio face gas prices nearing record highs, Sutton finds herself to the left of even President Obama on producing more domestic energy and creating American jobs.

“It’s becoming increasingly clear that Betty Sutton is standing in between Ohio families struggling with skyrocketing gas prices and policies that will create jobs and lessen our dependence on foreign oil,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Even President Obama is slowly recognizing what Sutton still fails to understand, which is that we cannot continue the Democrat policies of stifling American energy production and destroying jobs in the energy sector.”

President Obama is slowly reversing his policies of clamping down on American energy production:

“President Obama, facing voter anger over high gasoline prices and complaints from Republicans and business leaders that his policies are restricting the development of domestic energy resources, announced Saturday that he was taking several steps to speed oil and gas drilling on public lands and waters.” (John M. Broder, “Obama Shifts to Speed Oil and Gas Drilling in U.S.,” The New York Times, 5/14/11)

However, Betty Sutton has continued to oppose efforts to broaden domestic energy production and create American jobs. Last week, she voted against the Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act (H.R. 1229, Roll Call Vote #309, 5/11/11) and the Reversing President Obama’s Offshore Moratorium Act (H.R. 1231, Roll Call Vote #320, 5/12/11).

Now, Sutton finds herself among the increasingly small number of Democrats who continue to oppose energy policies that can lower gas prices and create jobs that Americans desperately need.
