Cooper Continues to Stand in the Way of More Jobs
Tennessee Democrat Continues Party’s Policies of Red Tape & More Taxes

Washington — As House Republicans offer more policies to promote more economic growth, Jim Cooper continues to stand in the way of job creation and defends the Obama Administration’s job-crushing priorities. Earlier this month, Cooper adamantly opposed bipartisan efforts to create jobs in the energy sector, and he continues to stand with President Obama’s calls to raise taxes on small businesses. Although efforts are continuing on the House floor to turn our economy around and create jobs, Cooper is the one often standing in opposition.

“Whether it’s blocking American jobs in the energy sector or defending the Obama Administration’s addiction to red tape and higher taxes on small businesses, House Democrat leaders have a friend in Jim Cooper,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Cooper has stood in the way of economic growth at every turn in order to protect his job-destroying spending spree, so it would be no surprise if Cooper continues his efforts in spite of his Tennessee constituents’ priorities.”

Even reliable Democrat allies have been turning on the Obama Administration’s overbearing job-destroying policies:

“The Obama administration’s environmental agenda, long a target of American business, is beginning to take fire from some of the Democratic Party’s most reliable supporters: Labor unions. Several unions with strong influence in key states are demanding that the Environmental Protection Agency soften new regulations aimed at pollution associated with coal-fired power plants. Their contention: Roughly half a dozen rules expected to roll out within the next two years could put thousands of jobs in jeopardy and damage the party’s 2012 election prospects.” (Stephen Power, “EPA Tangles With New Critic: Labor,” The Wall Street Journal, 3/14/11)

This is why efforts continue this week to create jobs and turn the American economy around:

“House Republicans will unveil their growth agenda this week, Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said on Monday. The House GOP leader explained that it was the second ‘tract’ in the Republican effort to revive the economy, pay down the debt and encourage more job creation. Cantor said that the ‘growth agenda’ set for a Thursday unveiling will focus on growing the economy and job creation, but did not provide details.” (Molly K. Despite this, Cooper has stood in opposition to these efforts, recently voting against plans to create thousands of more jobs in the energy sector (H.R. 1229, Roll Call Vote #309, 5/11/11; H.R. 1231, Roll Call Vote #320, 5/12/11).

Although middle-class families in Tennessee are still looking for relief from a struggling economy, Jim Cooper has consistently stood in the way of job-creation opportunities while in Washington. Although efforts continue to create jobs on all fronts, Cooper has indicated he will instead support his fellow Democrats who push for more job-crushing taxes and red tape on small businesses.
