Another Bummer Summer for Altmire’s Failed Stimulus?
Democrats Preparing a Sequel to Their First Flop Exactly One Year Later

Washington — Friday will mark the one year anniversary of Jason Altmire’s failed “Recovery Summer,” which comes amidst increasingly gloomy economic predictions and massive economic pressure on middle-class Americans. Incredibly, instead of abandoning their failed franchise, Altmire and his fellow Democrats seem to be writing another sequel with the same taxing and spending as the first one at the expense of Pennsylvania families and small businesses. Given the failure of Altmire and his fellow Democrats’ first attempt, his constituents will definitely be looking at another bust.

“Pennsylvania’s middle-class families would be hard-pressed to call Altmire’s ‘Recovery Summer’ anything but a flop given the deeply troubling economic trends they now face one year later,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “As small businesses resort to layoffs in order to cope with the Democrats’ burdensome taxes and red tape, Altmire’s consideration of yet another stimulus could not be more out of touch. Altmire’s constituents know what he did last summer, which is why they will certainly pan any attempt at another job-crushing sequel.”

Small businesses are alarmingly contemplating layoffs instead of hiring and expanding:

“In the latest sign that the economic recovery may have lost whatever modest oomph it had, more small businesses say that they are planning to shrink their payrolls than say they want to expand them. That is according to a new report released Tuesday by the National Federation of Independent Business, a trade group that regularly surveys its membership of small businesses across America.” (Catherine Rampell, “A Slowdown for Small Businesses,” The New York Times, 6/14/11)

One year after Jason Altmire’s failed “Recovery Summer,” the economic picture remains very troubling. The fact that Altmire and his fellow Democrats are now considering pushing through more of the same taxes and spending which will further destroy jobs demonstrates how remarkably out of touch they are.
