Miller Votes Against American Energy Jobs as Businesses Rail Against His Failed Policies
North Carolina Democrat Continues Stifling Job Creation with More Washington Red Tape

Washington — Despite the ongoing need to promote job creation wherever possible in this struggling economy, Brad Miller voted against efforts today to create thousands of jobs and reduce our dependency on oil from hostile foreign countries. This is yet another example of where Miller is simply following orders from his Democrat leaders who insist on piling up more job-destroying red-tape when the economy can afford it least.

“Brad Miller continues to promote more job-destroying policies that make a bad economy even worse for North Carolina’s middle-class families and small businesses,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Miller could have helped streamline his crushing Democrat red tape that was preventing the creation of American energy jobs and the reduction of our dependency on oil from hostile foreign countries. Instead he chose to continue making the problem worse at the cost of thousands of new jobs.”

The Obama Administration has delayed the Keystone XL pipeline with excessive red tape despite broad support and the potential to create thousands of jobs:

“With 9.1% unemployment and gasoline prices in the stratosphere, President Obama must sometimes wish that some big corporation would suddenly show up and offer a shovel-ready, multibillion-dollar project to create 100,000 jobs and reduce U.S. reliance on oil from dictatorships.

“Oh, wait. His Secretary of State has had that offer sitting on her desk since she was sworn in. The trouble is that the Administration can’t approve it without upsetting its anti-fossil fuel constituency. And so the proposal sits.”

“Judging from its past experience and that of Enbridge, TransCanada expected that permitting would take roughly 23 months. Thirty-three months, two State Department studies and 208,000 public comments later, TransCanada is still waiting. On current trend, the company will be lucky to get its permit by January, or after 40 months. But even that is far from certain.” (Editorial, “Jobs in the Pipeline,” The Wall Street Journal, 7/7/11)

But Brad Miller voted against the North American-Made Energy Security Act, which would have simply required the Obama Administration to make their final decision on the pipeline by November 1st, 2011. (H.R. 1938, Roll Call #650, Passed 279-147: R 232-3; D 47-144, 7/26/11)

Brad Miller had another chance to support efforts to create thousands of jobs today, but instead he chose to stand in the way of economic recovery. Miller demonstrates that he will continue to put the needs of his Democrat leaders in Washington ahead of middle-class families looking for economic recovery in North Carolina.
