NRCC Launches Targeted Calls: House Democrats’ Spending Spree Makes our Economy Worse
Markets Crash and Living Expenses Could Rise as Democrats’ Continue Addiction to Spending, Opposition to a Balanced Budget
Washington — The National Republican Congressional Committee today released a series of calls that highlight Jason Altmire’s commitment to big-spending and big-government policies. Even with a potential double dip recession on the horizon, Altmire continues to oppose a Balanced Budget Amendment and champion excessive government spending which could force Americans’ living expenses to rise.
“America’s credit rating has been downgraded, the cost of living could rise and every day our economy weakens as Jason Altmire and his fellow out-of-touch Democrats refuse to address the consequences of their political agenda,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Jason Altmire claims that he supports an urgent balanced approach to recovery, but he and his party have engaged in a wild spending spree that has cost America its credit standing and any hope for economy stability in the near future.”
“Does continued angst about the debt crisis in Europe and this weekend’s unprecedented downgrade of the United States’ creditworthiness unleash a torrent of financial woe?…
“The answer might be an uneasy, who knows? And that’s especially uneasy for aspiring homeowners, 401-K account holders and the unemployed who would be hurt by a spike in interest rates, a sell-off in the equity markets and a string of bad economic news that kills job growth…
“Derek Cunningham, a managing director at Commerce Street Capital in Atlanta, said the downgrade is serious in that it changes global perceptions of America’s credibility. It also weakens already feeble business confidence, which could slow hiring and other decisions that help grow an economy.”
(J. Scott Trubey, “World will react today to U.S. credit woes,” The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 8/7/2011)Instead of looking to assign blame to others, Jason Altmire needs to get serious about prioritizing his constituents’ needs ahead of his own Party’s addiction to reckless spending so that America can lift its way out of this current economic disaster.
