Does Costa Think His Policies Put the Economy “On the Upswing?”
Democrat Party Chair Makes Stunning Claim That Their Jobs Policies Have Been Working Perfectly Since Day One

Washington — Jim Costa’s party leaders are preparing to reveal their “new” jobs plan, which looks a lot like their old failed jobs plan, which would certainly confound middle-class families in California facing an increasingly dreary economy. It seems that Costa’s fellow Washington Democrats are still in denial, with their Democrat Party chair now claiming that the economy has been “on the upswing ever since President Obama took office.” Is Costa also willing to stand by the failed policies he has championed and tell his California constituents that this is what the Democrats’ upswing feels like?

“The fact that Jim Costa and his fellow Washington Democrats are preparing to double down on their same failed policies that make a bad economy worse is astonishing enough,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “But if Jim Costa claims that job-destroying taxes, red tape and borrowing from foreign countries has put the economy ‘on the upswing,’ it would truly demonstrate how out of touch he is with middle-class families in California looking for economic relief.”

At a town hall meeting recently, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) claimed the Democrats’ policies have been working for years in response to criticism on job creation:

“We are on the upswing ever since President Obama took office.” (Anthony Man, “Wasserman Schultz blasts Republicans, defends Obama, tears up on Social Security,” [South Florida] Sun Sentinel, 8/29/11)

However, the record shows unemployment has skyrocketed from 7.8 percent in January 2009 to 9.1 percent in July 2011. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Accessed 8/30/11)

And families have definitely not been feeling an upswing under the Democrats’ control of Washington:

“The Conference Board, a private research group, said its index of consumer confidence dropped to 44.5 this month, from a revised 59.2 in July, first reported as 59.5. The August reading is the lowest since April 2009 and was far worse than the 52.0 expected by economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires.” (Kathleen Madigan, “Consumer Confidence Plunges,” The Wall Street Journal, 8/30/11)

Jim Costa’s fellow Washington Democrats have clearly been in denial as they plan to double down on their failed policies that have seen a bad economy turn worse. However, if Costa is willing to join his party leaders and claim that this is actually an economy “on the upswing,” that will conflict with how struggling middle-class families and small businesses in California see it.
