Job-Creators Tell Dems to “Get Out of the Way”: Will Cooper Listen?
If Democrats Double Down on More Failed Big-Government Policies, Jobs Will Continue to be Destroyed

Washington — Tennessee Democrat Jim Cooper will soon have another jobs plan to bring to his constituents after President Obama gives his speech this evening. However, job-creators continue to point to the Democrats’ job-crushing regulations and taxes as direct impediments to hiring new workers. If Cooper and his fellow Democrats simply present more of their same failed big-government policies tonight, middle-class families in Tennessee will continue to see job-creation stifled as the bad economy becomes worse.

“The economy continues to suffer under Jim Cooper and his fellow Democrats’ failed economic policies, which is why approval of their leadership in Washington has reached record lows,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “With job-creators pleading for relief from the Democrats’ job-crushing regulations and taxes, Cooper should recognize that a new direction is needed to get small businesses hiring again so Tennessee can get back to work.”

Job-creators say that the Democrats’ big-government policies actively stifle economic growth, and that the federal government needs to “get out of the way” for hiring to resume:

“Ahead of the economic speech, an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll showed Obama’s overall job approval rating at a low of 44%, down 3 percentage points since July, while his handling of the economy stands at 37%. We asked several CEOs leading up to the speech what bold steps Obama could take to reduce the 9.1 percent unemployment rate.

“John Schiller, chairman and CEO of Energy XXI, said ‘if the government would get out of the way, from a regulation standpoint, and let us [XXI] do what we do good you’ll see us continue to hire and grow this economy.’ ‘I think that’s a message from across the board,’ said Schiller.

“Richard Parsons, chairman of Citigroup, told CNBC there are some specific things that can be done ‘in terms of moving government out of the way where it’s in the way of job creation.'” (Gennine Kelly, “CEOs to Obama: ‘Get out of the way’ for job growth,” USA Today, 9/7/11)

However, President Obama and his fellow Democrats don’t seem ready to change their ways:

“The White House is denying a report that President Obama is considering calling for a moratorium on regulations affecting the economy, save those that deal with health care and financial regulations, in his Thursday jobs speech.” (Sam Stein, “White House Denies Report It’s Considering Regulation Moratorium,” Huffington Post, 9/7/11)

It remains to be seen whether President Obama and his Democrat colleagues like Jim Cooper are ready to embrace pro-growth policies that will encourage American companies to create American jobs. If Cooper and his Democrat leaders present more of their same failed economic policies tonight, the bad economy will only continue to get worse.
