Will Matheson Demand More Job-Destroying Taxes for More Failed Stimulus?
Utah Democrat’s Party Leaders Want to Pay for Their Jobs Plan Retread by Raising Taxes During a Bad Economy

Washington — Jim Matheson’s Democrat leaders are already signaling they want to pay for their new stimulus plan attempt by raising taxes in the midst of an already poor economy. If Matheson joins their calls, it would strongly signal that his priorities lie in promoting the Democrats’ same failed policies even if that means destroying jobs with higher taxes in the process.

“Job creators are clearly worried about the direction Jim Matheson’s Democrat leaders have taken, which would hamper their efforts when economic recovery is needed most,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “If Jim Matheson joins his Democrat leaders in demanding higher taxes to pay for a retread of their failed policies, he would only help make a bad economy even worse for middle-class families in Utah.”

The Obama Administration said on Monday they want to pay for their stimulus plan retread with higher taxes even if it is during a bad economy:

“The White House will propose to pay for its jobs plan with a series of tax hikes worth an estimated $467 billion, White House budget chief Jack Lew said Monday. The tax increases have already been advocated by the Obama Administration, and rejected by Republicans, as recently as earlier this summer as part of the debt deal debate.” (Greg Robb, “White House would pay for job plan with tax hikes,” MarketWatch, 9/12/11)

These are the exact policies job creators worry about that directly impede their ability to hire new workers:

“David Catalano, who helped found Modea, a digital advertising company in Blacksburg, Va., said that he was wary of the president’s pledge to ask the ‘wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations to pay their fair share.’

“His company was organized as an S Corporation, in which profits are passed through to shareholders, so it would face higher taxes under the president’s proposal, he said.

“He added: ‘My partner and I have reinvested 100 percent of the profits that our agency has made over the last five years back into the company. If the government takes a bigger share of that from me, it directly impedes my ability to grow the agency.'” (Motoko Rich, “Employers Say Jobs Plan Won’t Lead to Hiring Spur,” The New York Times, 9/11/11)

Jim Matheson’s Democrat leaders are already calling for higher taxes that directly stifle job creation efforts when they are needed the most. If Matheson decides to support their wrongheaded efforts, it will clearly show his priority is supporting the same failed Democrat policies instead of middle-class families in Utah.
