Voters Sent Washington Democrats a Clear Message: Will Miller Listen?
Democrats Across the Country Facing Massive Rejection of Their Support for President Obama’s Failed Economic Policies

Washington — North Carolina Democrat Brad Miller should recognize that voters across the country, more than ever, are rejecting President Obama and his failed leadership in Washington. Voter anger at Miller and his fellow Democrats’ disastrous economic policies are so low, a sapphire-blue Congressional district in New York City elected a Republican for the first time since the 1920s last night. The verdict from voters on Miller’s failed economic policies could not be clearer: Will he listen?

“As President Obama’s failed economic policies continue to reach new lows in popularity, Brad Miller will certainly have to explain his loyal support for the President to his constituents in North Carolina,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Voters across the country are sending a strong signal of disapproval to all Washington Democrats for their failed leadership in Washington, but it remains to be seen whether Miller will listen.”

Democrats suffered stunning losses in two special election contests last night because of their failed economic policies:

“The Democratic Party’s rare loss of a congressional seat in its urban heartland Tuesday, accompanied by a blowout defeat in a Nevada special election, marked the latest in a string of demoralizing setbacks that threatened to deepen the party’s crisis of confidence and raise concerns about President Barack Obama’s political fortunes.” (Jonathan Martin, Ben Smith and Jake Sherman, “Twin defeats spark Democratic fears,” Politico, 9/14/11)

“On the economy especially, Obama has become a liability, and in this district he once easily won, his unfavorable ratings in the final Siena poll were upside down at 54 percent. Weprin is hemorrhaging over a third of Democratic voters as well as losing independent voters more than two-to-one.” (Jessica Taylor, “Previewing the NY-09 Special Election,” National Journal‘s Hotline On Call Blog, 9/13/11)

President Obama’s handling of the economy continues to reach new lows after proposing a second stimulus plan:

“A majority of Americans don’t believe President Barack Obama’s $447 billion jobs plan will help lower the unemployment rate, skepticism he must overcome as he presses Congress for action and positions himself for re- election…

“The poll hands Obama new lows in each of the categories that measures his performance on the economy: only 36 percent of respondents approve of his efforts to create jobs, 30 percent approve of how he’s tackled the budget deficit and 39 percent approve of his handling of health care.” (Juliana Goldman, “Obama Approval Plummets to New Low Among Americans Skeptical of Jobs Plan,” Bloomberg, 9/14/11)

The main takeaway from last night is the fact that voters across the country are more upset than ever with the failed economic policies of President Obama and his Democrat allies like Brad Miller. The only thing that remains unclear is whether or not Miller will listen to their message.
