Grijalva Opposes Efforts to Create Thousands of Jobs & Develop American Resources
Arizona Democrat Opposes Land Exchange to Utilize Vast Undeveloped Copper Resources While Protecting the Surrounding Environment

Washington — Despite his talk of creating jobs, Raul Grijalva today voted against efforts to develop American copper resources that would potentially create thousands of jobs and supply domestic manufacturers with reliable sources of materials. Although his constituents in Arizona are searching for any opportunities to create jobs, Grijalva decided to stand in opposition to these efforts instead.

“Raul Grijalva demonstrates his talk of creating jobs is merely empty rhetoric when he votes against efforts to create badly-needed American jobs and provide raw materials from domestic sources to American manufacturers,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “With the economy in increasingly dire straits, middle-class families in Arizona can’t wait for Grijalva to stop promoting job-crushing Democrat policies in Washington.”

The land deal would potentially create thousands of American jobs while protecting the surrounding environment at no extra cost to the federal government:

“Congress has a rare opportunity to create jobs, preserve a ribbon of river in the desert, raise tax revenue and boost production of a strategic mineral. Without spending a dime. All it takes is a ‘yes’ vote on a land exchange that would allow the Resolution Copper project to go forward. The proposed mine, near Superior, is at the site of the third largest undeveloped copper resource in the world…

“Now that’s economic stimulus…

“In today’s economy, it’s hard to imagine that members of Congress would fail to give this bill a resounding approval in the House.” (Editorial, “A bill to launch 1,000-plus jobs,” The Arizona Republic, 10/25/11)

But Raul Grijalva opposed the Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act of 2011. (H.R. 1904, Roll Call #809, Passed 235-186: R 228-8; D 7-178, 10/26/11)

Raul Grijalva rejected more efforts today to potentially create thousands of real American jobs that are waiting to start. Grijalva’s constituents in Arizona will surely wonder why he stood with his Democrat leaders in Washington and opposed meaningful job creation again today.
