This Halloween, Democrats are Dressing Up as Themselves

The Democrats’ Job-Destroying Policies Make a Frightening Costume

  • Speaking Friday to CNBC, Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi made a baffling defense of her party’s job-destroying actions, including the uncertainty created by Democrats’ big government policies and the Obama administration’s move to shut down a Boeing factory in South Carolina. Pelosi also claimed that she often “takes time to listen to what people are saying,” which is exactly what Democrats haven’t done by ignoring job creators’ complaints.
  • Pelosi even claimed that she and her party “subject everything to scrutiny,” which is odd given her infamous comment during the healthcare debate of 2010 that we have to “pass the bill to find out what’s in it.” The American people have found out “what’s in it” and polls show that the Democrats’ government takeover of healthcare continues to grow more unpopular.
  • Meanwhile, Democrats are getting in line behind Obama’s calls for a second round of failed stimulus spending. When will Democrats learn their lesson?

BACKGROUND

Speaking Friday to CNBC, Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi made a baffling defense of her party’s job-destroying actions, including the uncertainty created by Democrats’ big government policies and the Obama administration’s move to shut down a Boeing factory in South Carolina. Pelosi also claimed that she often “takes time to listen to what people are saying,” which is exactly what Democrats haven’t done by ignoring job creators’ complaints:

PELOSI DEFENDS OBAMA DECISION TO SHUT DOWN BOEING’S FACTORY IN SOUTH CAROLINA ON BEHALF OF UNIONS: CNBC’S MARIA BARTIROMO: “Do you think it’s right that Boeing has to close down that plant in South Carolina because it’s nonunion?”

REP. PELOSI:  “Yes. I don’t think they should close it down. I would hope they would make it union.“(“Pelosi: ‘Yes’ The Obama NLRB Should Shut Down Boeing’s Plant in SC,” Real Clear Politics, 10/29/2011)

PELOSI CLAIMS JOB-DESTROYING “UNCERTAINTY IS NOT A POSITIVE THING” BUT THAT’S THE PRICE YOU PAY “WHEN YOU MAKE CHANGE”: “The uncertainty is not a positive thing. But it happens when you make change.” (Remarks from Nancy Pelosi, CNBC’s “Closing Bell”, 10/29/2011)

AND THEN SAYS “IT TAKES TIME TO LISTEN TO WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING”—EXACTLY WHAT DEMOCRATS HAVEN’T DONE IN THE RUSH TO RAM THROUGH JOB-DESTROYING POLICIES: “It takes time to listen to what people are saying in order to go forward.” (Remarks from Nancy Pelosi, CNBC’s “Closing Bell”, 10/29/2011)

Pelosi even claimed that she and her party “subject everything to scrutiny,” which is odd given her infamous comment during the healthcare debate of 2010 that we have to “pass the bill to find out what’s in it.” The American people have found out “what’s in it” and polls show that the Democrats’ government takeover of healthcare continues to grow more unpopular:

PELOSI IN OCTOBER 2011: “… I THINK WE SUBJECT EVERYTHING WE DO TO SCRUTINY”: “But the — I think we subject everything we do to scrutiny.” (Remarks from Nancy Pelosi, CNBC’s “Closing Bell”, 10/29/2011)

PELOSI IN MARCH 2010: “… WE HAVE TO PASS THE BILL SO THAT YOU CAN FIND OUT WHAT IS IN IT” : “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” (David Freddoso, “Pelosi on Health Care: ‘We Have to Pass the Bill So You Can Find Out What Is In It,” The Washington Examiner’s Beltway Confidential blog, 3/9/2010)

KAISER POLL: HEALTHCARE TAKEOVER SUPPORT DOWN TO 34%, OPPOSITION UP TO 51%:“Yesterday the Kaiser Family Foundation released its October tracking poll and found that only 34% of respondents have a favorable view of the Affordable Care Act, down from 41% in September. Notably, the decline was due to losing Democratic supporters, who dropped to 52% support from 65% month to month. Meanwhile, 51% of the public is opposed to the vast new government health-care entitlement, up from a prior 2011 average of 45%.” (Editorial, “Less Popular All the Time,” The Wall Street Journal, 10/29/2011)

RESULTS NOTEWORTHY BECAUSE KAISER HAS LONG BEEN “SHOWING MORE SUPPORT” THAN OTHER POLLS: “These results show the lowest support ever in the Kaiser survey and they’re remarkable because the research outfit has long been an outlier, showing more support overall for the law, or for this or that provision, than other pollsters have been able to detect. This report is more in line with the national trend.”(Editorial, “Less Popular All the Time,” The Wall Street Journal, 10/29/2011)

RCP AVERAGE: 50.6% OPPOSITION, 38.4% SUPPORT: “The current Real Clear Politics average of all health polling puts opposition at 50.6% and support at 38.4%, down from a summer high of 41.5%.”(Editorial, “Less Popular All the Time,” The Wall Street Journal, 10/29/2011)

Meanwhile, Democrats are getting in line behind Obama’s calls for a second round of failed stimulus spending. When will Democrats learn their lesson?:

93 DEMOCRATS OFFICIALLY COSPONSORING STIMULUS 2.0: (Thomas.gov, Accessed 10/30/2011)

WASSERMAN SCHULTZ SAYS DON’T PAY ATTENTION TO COSPONSOR LIST, SUPPORT IS “WIDESPREAD”: “Well, the co-sponsorship is really not reflective of the widespread support that exists in the Democratic caucus and in the country for the American Jobs Act.” (CNN’s “State of the Union,” 10/16/2011)

WHITE HOUSE: “95 PERCENT” OF DEMOCRATS SUPPORT STIMULUS 2.0: “The White House said its package enjoys the support of 95 percent of Democrats and that by the end of the year it will be clear to voters that Obama and his party are trying to work for more jobs while Republicans are obstructing progress.” (Sam Youngman and Russell Berman, “Rep. Cantor rejects Obama, says president’s jobs package is dead,” The Hill, 10/3/11)

FLASHBACK TO A MONTH AGO: DEMOCRAT LEADER NANCY PELOSI SAID “OUR CAUCUS IS VERY UNIFIED” ABOUT OBAMA’S NEW STIMULUS AND TAX HIKES. “Dem Leaders Pelosi adds ‘Our caucus is very unified about the American Jobs Act’ responding to ?s about some Dems not liking Obama plan” (Tweet from Kelly O’Donnell, NBC News, 9/15/2011)
