Chandler Has One Week to Decide Whether He Will Balance D.C.’s Budget
Kentucky Democrat Will Vote Next Week on a Balanced Budget Amendment to Require the Government to Live Within Its Means

Washington — Ben Chandler will now have one week before he weighs in on whether he believes Washington should finally balance its books and stop the years of spending and borrowing that have defined the Democrats’ failed leadership. As he spends the week before the vote back in Kentucky, Chandler should let his constituents know where he stands on the balanced budget amendment to finally have the government live within its means.

“Ben Chandler should provide more than lip service to his constituents on fiscal responsibility this week and let them know how he intends to vote on the balanced budget amendment next week,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Chandler should take action to right the Democrats’ wrongs after years of spending and borrowing that have left Kentucky families and future generations indebted to foreign countries like China.”

The balanced budget amendment will be voted on in the House next week:

“The House next week is expected to debate and vote on a balanced-budget amendment (BBA) to the Constitution…

“‘We expect a BBA to be considered during the week of Nov. 14,’ House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) spokeswoman Laena Fallon told The Hill.” (Pete Kasperowicz, “House GOP plans balanced-budget amendment next week,” The Hill‘s Floor Action Blog, 11/7/11)

House Democrats intend to oppose the bill and are drumming up opposition ahead of the vote:

“House Democratic leaders are urging their colleagues to vote against a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution when it comes up for a vote this month, all but ensuring its defeat.

“House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said that although he has supported a constitutional amendment to require a balanced budget in 1995, now is not the time.” (Gregory Korte, “House Dems will block balanced budget amendment,” USA Today‘s On Politics Blog, 11/4/11)

Ben Chandler will get the opportunity next week to support the meaningful fiscal discipline that has been lacking for years in Washington. Will Chandler make the simple choice and require the government to only spend the money it has, or will he continue to fuel the Democrats’ spending addiction and put families and future generations in Kentucky further into debt to foreign countries like China?
