White House Staff So Excited About Solyndra They “About Had an Orgasm”

  • Newly released e-mails show that White House officials viewed now-bankrupt Solyndra as a “prime poster child” for the Democrats’ stimulus and in their excitement “about had an orgasm” when investors lobbied for taxpayer loans to the company.
  • These e-mails also contradict earlier Democrat denials that billionaire Obama bundler George Kaiser met with the White House about Solyndra. Indeed, the e-mails show Kaiser and his associates pressed for the administration to step in to save the failing company as it was on the verge of bankruptcy.
  • Meanwhile, Democrats continue to lobby for more of the same failed stimulus spending, while blocking efforts to investigate what went wrong with the first stimulus.

BACKGROUND

Newly released e-mails show that White House officials viewed now-bankrupt Solyndra as a “prime poster child” for the Democrats’ stimulus and in their excitement “about had an orgasm” when investors lobbied for taxpayer loans to the company:

NEW E-MAILS: WHITE HOUSE STAFF “ABOUT HAD AN ORGASM” REGARDING SOLYNDRA LOAN: ” ‘They about had an orgasm in Biden’s office when we mentioned Solyndra,’ reads a Feb. 27, 2010, email from Levit to Mitchell. A follow-up email from Mitchell to Levit later that day responds with: ‘That’s awesome! Get us a (Department of Energy) loan.'” (Chad Pergram, “Solyndra Emails Claim Biden’s Staff ‘About Had an Orgasm’ About Energy Loans to Firm,” Fox News, 11/9/2011)

OOPS: WHITE HOUSE THOUGHT SOLYNDRA “WAS ONE OF THEIR PRIME POSTER CHILDREN” FOR THE STIMULUS: “BTW, a couple of weeks ago, when Ken and I were visiting with a group of Administration folks in DC who are in charge of the stimulus process (White House, not DOE) and Solyndra came up, every one of them responded simultaneously about their thorough knowledge of the Solyndra story, suggesting it was one of their prime poster children.” (Phillip Klein, “E-mails Show Obama Donor Discussed Solyndra with WH,” The Washington Examiner, 11/9/2011)

OBAMA’S DOE “ALL BUT” TOLD SOLYNDRA THAT THEY WOULD BE FIRST IN LINE FOR A SECOND STIMULUS LOAN: (E-mail from Steve Mitchell to George Kaiser, U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee, 3/5/2010, p. 3)

These e-mails also contradict earlier Democrat denials that billionaire Obama bundler George Kaiser met with the White House about Solyndra. Indeed, the e-mails show Kaiser and his associates pressed for the administration to step in to save the failing company as it was on the verge of bankruptcy:

TOP OBAMA BUNDLER KAISER “WEIGHED ASKING WHITE HOUSE TO SAVE SOLYNDRA” AS IT WAS FAILING: “A key investor in the failed solar power company Solyndra, who was also a political donor to Barack Obama, strategized with his top executives about whether and how they should use their contacts inside the White House to help their failing business venture, according to emails surfaced by Congressional investigators Wednesday.” (Matthew Mosk, “Emails: Obama Donor Weighed Asking White House to Save Solyndra,” ABC News, 11/9/2011)

WHITE HOUSE HAD “OFFERED TO HELP” IN THE PAST: ” ‘The White House has offered to help in the past and we do have a contact within the White House that we are working with,’ an adviser to billionaire Oklahoma oilman George Kaiser writes in an October 6, 2010 email. … Kaiser replies to Steve Mitchell, a senior executive at Kaiser’s venture capital firm, that he should ‘pursue your contacts with the WH to follow up’ but advises him not to directly ask, ‘Can you help with this?’ ” (Matthew Mosk, “Emails: Obama Donor Weighed Asking White House to Save Solyndra,” ABC News, 11/9/2011)

NOTHING TO SEE HERE, FOLKS: GEORGE KAISER WAS SOLYNDRA’S BIGGEST INVESTOR AND PLOTTED TO GET WHITE HOUSE HELP TO GET SECOND STIMULUS LOAN AND GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS: “Solyndra’s biggest investor was a fund linked to the family foundation of George Kaiser, a Tulsa billionaire and bundler for Obama’s presidential campaign.

“Kaiser was involved in e-mail correspondence with his business colleagues about an upcoming White House meeting to get the administration’s help in selling its panels, and in seeking a second energy department loan, which if awarded would have been in addition to a $535 million loan the company received in 2009.” (Joe Stephens, “Solyndra E-mails Show Obama Fundraiser Discussed Lobbying White House,” The Washington Post, 11/9/2011)

E-MAILS CONTRADICT WHITE HOUSE DENIALS THAT KAISER’S 17 WHITE HOUSE MEETINGS EVER MENTIONED SOLYNDRA: “The document contradicts White House statements that Kaiser ‘never discussed Solyndra during any of his seventeen visits to the White House,’ Representatives Fred Upton of Michigan and Cliff Stearns of Florida, who are leading a congressional investigation into Solyndra’s collapse, said in a letter today to White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler.” (Jim Snyder, “Kaiser Spoke to White House About Solyndra,” Bloomberg, 11/9/2011)

Meanwhile, Democrats continue to lobby for more of the same failed stimulus spending, while blocking efforts to investigate what went wrong with the first stimulus:

WHITE HOUSE “REJECTS DEMAND FOR SOLYNDRA DOCUMENTS”: “The White House today rejected a Congressional demand for documents related to the failed solar firm Solyndra, accusing the Republicans on a committee investigating a massive federal loan to Solyndra of playing politics.” (Randy Kreider, “White House Rejects Demand for Solyndra Documents,” ABC News, 11/4/2011)

BUT SAYS “WE CAN’T WAIT” FOR MORE STIMULUS MONEY, EVEN THOUGH THE LAST STIMULUS FUNDED NOW-BANKRUPT SOLYNDRA: “President Obama’s growing impatience with Congress’ refusal to ‘pass this bill now’ has launched a new approach — bypassing Congress by taking actions that don’t require congressional support and insisting that ‘We Can’t Wait’ for any more delays on Capitol Hill.” (“President Begins ‘We Can’t Wait’ Economic Push,” Fox News, 10/24/2011)

AND 98 HOUSE DEMOCRATS ARE ON BOARD: (Thomas.gov, Accessed 11/09/2011)

WITH MORE TO COME: DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ: “Well, the co-sponsorship is really not reflective of the widespread support that exists in the Democratic caucus and in the country for the American Jobs Act.” (CNN’s “State of the Union,” 10/16/2011)

STILL THINK SO, JOE? BIDEN TOLD CNN: “NOBODY” CAN SAY STIMULUS “DID NOT DO VERY GOOD THINGS” FOR THE ECONOMY: (CNN’s “State Of The Union”, 10/23/11)
