Blue Dogs Buckle to Popular Opinion, Will Vote ‘YES’ on Balanced Budget Amendment
House Democrats Still Divided Just Days Ahead of the Balanced Budget Amendment Vote as Party Leaders Drum Up Opposition

Blue Dog Democrats have announced that they will vote for the balanced budget amendment later this week:

“Blue Dogs just endorsed the BBA in a press call.” (Marin Cogan’s Twitter Page, Politico, 11/16/11)

But other Democrats are still deciding on whether to listen to the 74 percent of Americans who support a balanced budget amendment, since Washington Democrat leaders are drumming up opposition:

“Democratic leadership, meanwhile, has been waging a campaign against the amendment, and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer told reporters Tuesday that his efforts to defeat it will be successful…

“The vote has exposed a rift among Members of the Democratic Caucus, some of whom believe that this is the best chance to pass a balanced budget amendment with no strings attached.” (Daniel Newhauser, “Unity Difficult on Balanced Budget Amendment,” Roll Call, 11/16/11)
