National Debt Surpasses $15 Trillion: Is it Time Yet, Democrats?
House Democrat Whip Steny Hoyer Urges Caucus to Oppose Balanced Budget Amendment, Saying “Now is Not the Time” Today, the national debt surpassed $15 trillion after President Obama and his Democrat allies promoted its most rapid increase in American history:
“Don’t look now, members of the ‘supercommittee’ battling the national debt, but the amount the U.S. owes topped the $15 trillion mark Wednesday afternoon. That’s a lot of George Washingtons, as you can see here live at USdebtclock.org.” (Bill McGuire, “U.S. Debt Tops $15 Trillion Mark Today,” ABC News’ Consumer Report Blog, 11/16/11)
Despite this record level of debt that Washington Democrats have forced upon taxpayers, House Democrat leaders are frantically trying to get their caucus to oppose the simple legislation that would force Washington to live within its means:
“House Democratic leaders are urging their colleagues to vote against a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution when it comes up for a vote this month, all but ensuring its defeat.
“House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said that although he has supported a constitutional amendment to require a balanced budget in 1995, now is not the time.” (Gregory Korte, “House Dems will block balanced budget amendment,” USA Today‘s On Politics Blog, 11/4/11) |
