New York Democrat Has Record of Supporting Red Tape that Small Businesses Say is Their Biggest Obstacle to Job Creation
Washington — Tim Bishop will have more opportunities this week to vote for the regulatory reform that small businesses say they need in order to create jobs. However, Bishop has a long record of supporting burdensome red tape championed by the Obama Administration and Washington Democrats that hinders small businesses from creating jobs. Will Bishop once again vote this week to protect the Democrat red tape spree that is proving to be a nightmare for struggling small businesses?
“Although Tim Bishop has a history of voting in favor of President Obama’s disastrous job-killing red tape spree, he should lend his support to House efforts later this week to ensure that new regulations aren’t excessively burdensome to the small businesses struggling to create jobs,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Middle class families in New York want Bishop and his fellow Democrats in Washington to facilitate job creation, not destroy it with even more government red tape.”
Tim Bishop has opposed these efforts to rein in the Democrats’ costly red tape spree this year:
• The Energy Tax Prevention Act (H.R. 910, Roll Call #249, 4/7/11)
• Disapproval of FCC’s Net Neutrality Regulations (H.J. Res. 37, Roll Call #252, 4/8/11)
• The Clean Water Cooperative Federalism Act (H.R. 2018, Roll Call #573, 7/13/11)
• Consumer Financial Protection and Soundness Improvement Act (H.R. 1315, Roll Call #621, 7/21/11)
• Protecting Jobs From Government Interference Act (H.R. 2587, Roll Call #711, 9/15/11)
• Transparency In Regulatory Analysis Of Impacts On The Nation (H.R. 2401, Roll Call #741, 9/23/11)
• Cement Sector Regulatory Relief Act (H.R. 2681, Roll Call #764, 10/6/11)
• EPA Regulatory Relief Act (H.R. 2250, Roll Call #791, 10/13/11)
• Coal Residuals Reuse and Management Act (H.R. 2273, Roll Call #800, 10/14/11)
But small businesses say their biggest problem is complying with burdensome government regulations. (Dennis Jacobe, “Gov’t Regulations at Top of Small-Business Owners’ Problem List,” Gallup, 10/24/11)
Tim Bishop has provided costly support for President Obama’s red tape spree in the past, but later this week he will have an opportunity to support some of the common-sense regulatory reform small businesses say they need. Will Bishop finally demonstrate that he is willing to support proposals that will actually help small businesses grow, instead of burdening them with even more red tape from Washington?
