More Tierney trouble: A conviction

December 5, 2011

Massachusetts Rep. John Tierney’s family troubles just keep getting worse.

On Monday, Daniel Eremian, Tierney’s brother-in-law, was convicted on federal racketeering charges relating to his role in helping to run an offshore gambling operation. Sentencing is expected to come at a later date.

Tierney’s wife, Patrice Tierney, who already served a month in prison over her connection to her brother’s activities, testified during Eremian’s trial and invoked spousal privilege, allowing her to bypass questions about what, if anything, her husband knew about the gaming.

But Republicans — led by Tierney’s GOP opponent, former state House Minority Leader Richard Tisei —have been pounding the congressman over what he knew and when he knew it, and Monday’s verdict won’t make things any easier for the Democrat.
