Rep. Tierney’s brother-in-law convicted in illegal gambling case

December 5, 2011

The brother-in-law of Rep. John Tierney (D-Mass.) was convicted Monday of racketeering and running an illegal Internet gambling empire based in Antigua, The Boston Herald reported.

Daniel Eremian, whose sister, Patrice, is married to Tierney, was also convicted of money laundering and filing false tax returns.

While Tierney is not accused of being involved in the gambling ring, the scandal is likely to continue to dog his reelection efforts as Republicans tie him to the appearance of impropriety and cast doubt on Patrice Tierney’s claim that she knew nothing about the illegal activity.
