Chandler Votes to Protect Excessive Job-Killing Regulations Instead of Helping Small Businesses
Kentucky Democrat Opposes the REINS Act Which Would Add the Regulatory Accountability That Small Businesses Need

Washington — The small businesses attempting to grow and create jobs continue to plead for relief from the massive wave of new red tape from Washington, but Ben Chandler and President Obama aren’t listening. Chandler today rejected yet another opportunity to introduce accountability to the hyperactive rulemaking process that has been devastating to struggling small businesses and middle-class families counting on them for work.

“Ben Chandler is clearly putting President Obama’s job-killing red tape spree ahead of the policies that small businesses say will help them create jobs for middle-class families in Kentucky,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Chandler today voted to continue to allow the Obama Administration to keep piling on scores of brand new mandates that crush small businesses and make a bad economy worse.”

Job creation continues to remain stagnant:

“Job market conditions in the United States were flat in November, as Gallup’s Job Creation Index remained at +14, similar to the range seen since May. This is another indication that Friday’s sharp drop to 8.6% in the government’s U.S. unemployment rate may be overstated.” (Dennis Jacobe, “U.S. Job Creation Flat in November,” Gallup, 12/6/11)

Job creators continue to say complying with government regulations is their greatest challenge:

“Small-business owners in the United States are most likely to say complying with government regulations (22%) is the most important problem facing them today…” (Dennis Jacobe, “Gov’t Regulations at Top of Small-Business Owners’ Problem List,” Gallup, 10/24/11)

Creating jobs is getting harder – rather than easier – because of the Democrats’ rulemaking spree:

“‘Businesses adding jobs’ is a headline every elected official loves to read. Sadly, it’s one that’s getting harder and harder to find because of a policy and regulatory landscape that makes it increasingly difficult for businesses to see why and where creating new jobs makes sense.

“That’s especially true for me and my colleagues in the restaurant industry, who find ourselves facing a plate piled high with more and more federal, state and local regulations.” (Clarence Otis Jr., “What’s stopping job creation? Too much regulation,” CNN, 12/6/11)

But Ben Chandler voted against the REINS Act, which would give small businesses the accountability they want by requiring an up or down vote in Congress for the costliest regulations that would have an economic impact of $100 million or greater. (H.R. 10, Roll Call #901, Passed 241-184: R 237-0; D 4-184, 12/7/11)

Instead of helping small businesses create jobs for middle-class families in Kentucky, Ben Chandler demonstrated again today he is making life even harder for them with more Washington red tape.
