Leonard Boswell’s Misguided Approach to Federal Spending

December 15, 2011

Good Afternoon –

Wanted to draw your attention to Leonard Boswell’s reaction to President Obama’s budget proposal that was announced yesterday. Unfortunately, Obama’s latest spending plan is just another chapter in the Democrats spending, borrowing and taxing playbook. Pundits and editorial boards agree, “Obama doesn’t much care about the debt threat or has decided to wait until after the 2012 elections. Either would be a shame, and economically risky.” (Editorial, “Our View: Obama’s Budget Ducks Tough Choices,” USA Today, 2/15/11)

Fact

At no point in the president’s 10-year projection would the U.S. government spend less than it’s taking in.” (ABC News’ Political Punch blog, 2/14/2011)

“Obama projects that the deficit will hit a record $1.6 trillion this year – which, at nearly 11 percent of the economy, would be the largest since World War II.” (The Washington Post, 2/14/2011)

“Mr. Obama’s budget said 2011 will see the biggest one-year jump in debt in history, or nearly $2 trillion in a single year.” (The Washington Times, 2/14/2011)

Fiction
Leonard Boswell: “The President’s proposed budget is a level-headed approach to addressing our nation’s deficit crisis.” (Des Moines Register, 2/14/2011)

NRCC Comment: “Leonard Boswell continues to push the same failed policies which have exploded the federal deficit and hampered Iowa’s small businesses from creating jobs. What exactly does Leonard Boswell think is level-headed about adding $8.7 trillion in new spending — and $7.2 trillion to the federal debt?” – NRCC Spokeswoman Andrea Bozek
