North Carolina Democrat Votes With Nancy Pelosi for a Tax Increase on the Middle Class
Washington — Mike McIntyre today voted against trying to achieve a workable and bipartisan solution to keep payroll taxes low on working American families. This comes after McIntyre voted to block the 130,000 jobs associated with the Keystone XL pipeline and against another complete payroll tax extension package last week (Roll Call #923, 12/13/11). Since McIntyre has blocked multiple efforts to achieve a realistic bipartisan solution, his alternative would be to raise taxes on every American worker next year instead.
“Mike McIntyre demonstrated again today that he is simply not serious about preventing tax increases that would impact every single American worker starting next year,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Instead McIntyre is standing strong with Nancy Pelosi to block 130,000 energy jobs and endanger many more with crushing new red tape that struggling small businesses say will be impossible to manage.”
Small businesses are saying the Democrats’ unserious proposal to kick the payroll tax can down the road for two months instead of extending it for a full year would be a logistical nightmare, even though they are already overburdened by excessive red-tape:
“Smaller businesses that use off-the-shelf software or prepare pay stubs by hand would also face difficulty complying with late changes. ‘It’s a complication in the employer’s life and I think the smaller employers are the ones who are going to feel the confusion more directly,’ said Abe Schneier, a senior technical manager at the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Washington.”
