Rep. Roscoe Bartlett Steps Up Fundraising For Maryland House Race
FREDERICK, Md. – U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett says he’s stepping up fundraising for a re-election bid now that a court has dismissed a challenge to the redistricting map that made Maryland’s 6th Congressional District more competitive.
The 10-term Republican incumbent told The Frederick News-Post on Tuesday he raised about $150,000 in recent weeks to boost his campaign war chest.
Bartlett says he’s "probably uniquely fitted" to win the race.
Bartlett raised just $1,000 from July through September. His lackluster efforts prompted speculation that the 85-year-old congressman planned to retire. Several prominent Republicans, including state party chairman Alex Mooney, said they were considering joining the race.
Maryland’s Democratic leaders redrew the 6th District to include more of Democrat-heavy Montgomery County. State Sen. Rob Garagiola is the perceived front-runner among the Democratic candidates.
