Hastings Sexual Harassment Accusations Still Under Review by Ethics Committee
Impeached Federal Judge and Democrat Congressman Remains Under a Microscope for “Never-Ending Barrage of Unwanted Sexual Advances”

SPIN CYCLE: Then-Speaker Pelosi Promised that Democrats Would “Demand the Highest Ethics from Every Public Servant”:

“Our goal is to restore accountability, honesty and openness at all levels of government. To do so, we will create and enforce rules that demand the highest ethics from every public servant, sever unethical ties between lawmakers and lobbyists, and establish clear standards that prevent the trading of official business for gifts.” (Nancy Pelosi’s “A New Direction for America,” Page 21)

RINSE CYCLE: Federal Lawsuit and Close Scrutiny Still in Store for Already-Impeached Hastings:

“The House Ethics Committee has voted not to conduct a full-scale investigation into allegations that Rep. Alcee Hastings sexually harassed a former aide and retaliated against her when she complained about his actions, but a federal civil lawsuit over the case is still pending.

“Reps. Jo Bonner (R-Ala.) and Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.), the chairman and ranking member of the Ethics Committee, issued a statement Wednesday, saying they will continue to review the Hastings case, although there will be no formal probe of the Florida Democrat at this time. …

“In her lawsuit and press interviews, Packer claims she was targeted by a ‘never-ending barrage of unwanted sexual advances’ by Hastings beginning roughly six months after he hired her for the Helsinki Commission in May 2007.” (John Bresnahan, “Alcee Hastings escapes House Ethics Committee judgment,” Politico, 1/11/2012)
