Shuler & Obama Cap Three Years of Failed Leadership by Sending Keystone Jobs to China
North Carolina Democrat Needs to Stand Up for Job Creation After Obama’s Keystone Rejection is Widely Panned

Washington — It’s been three years today since Barack Obama was sworn-in as president, and Heath Shuler and his Democrat leaders are proving more committed than ever to backing this president’s job-destroying policies. Instead of supporting the quality manufacturing jobs the Keystone XL pipeline project would have provided, Shuler sided with President Obama’s efforts to appease radical anti-energy activist donors. With thousands of jobs now headed for China, criticism of Shuler and his fellow Democrats is growing more intense.

“Thousands of jobs are headed for China and a prime opportunity for energy independence has been lost just because Shuler and Obama needed to appease wealthy anti-energy donors who think nothing of destroying opportunities for working families,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “As we mark the end of the first three years of the Obama Presidency, it is clear that Shuler and his Democrat colleagues are committed to another four years of the same job destroying policies that have failed hardworking taxpayers across America.”

This week, nearly every major editorial board in the country called out the blatantly political decision to reject the Keystone XL pipeline project and its thousands of jobs:

“Editorial board sentiment is running overwhelmingly against President Obama’s decision to kill the Keystone XL pipeline. Of the nation’s top 15 newspapers by circulation, only one — the New York Times — editorialized in favor of killing the pipeline.” (Byron Tau, “Editorials pan Obama’s Keystone decision,” Politico‘s 44 Blog, 1/19/12)

America’s loss is China’s gain:

“President Barack Obama’s decision yesterday to reject a permit for TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL oil pipeline may prompt Canada to turn to China for oil exports…

“The ‘decision by the Obama administration underlines the importance of diversifying and expanding our markets, including the growing Asian market,’ [Canadian Natural Resource Minister Joe] Oliver told reporters in Ottawa.” (Theophilos Argitis and Jeremy Van Loon, “Obama’s Keystone Denial Prompts Canada to Focus on China,” Bloomberg, 1/19/12)

President Obama and Democrats put their reelection priorities before the needs of unemployed Americans:

“‘It’s crippling,’ [Julie Katz, owner of the Fairbury Executive Suites] said. ‘This is politics, and we are paying the price. There are some mom-and-pop stores in these small towns that will not survive through this political season, because they have built a lot of their hopes on an economic boom coming through this area again.'” (Jose Pagliery, “Obama’s Keystone pipeline nix worries small business,” CNNMoney, 1/19/12)

If Heath Shuler’s constituents in North Carolina want to know what four more years of Shuler and Obama in Washington would be like, they only need to look back at the past three. The fact that Shuler and Obama shamelessly put politics before middle-class jobs this week is unfortunately no surprise after examining their past record of failure.
