California Democrat’s Failed $800 Billion Stimulus Continues to Grab Headlines for Waste and Fraud Rather than Job Creation
Washington — The outrageous examples of waste continue after Jerry McNerney’s failed stimulus program blew through $535 million of taxpayer money on Solyndra, the now-bankrupt company Democrat leaders once touted as the poster child for their taxpayer-backed stimulus loan guarantees. Even with the bankrupt company still owing taxpayers half a billion dollars, Solyndra was caught throwing millions of dollars worth of solar panel equipment into dumpsters last week.
“Taxpayers in California have long known Jerry McNerney’s failed stimulus policies threw their hard-earned money away, but to literally throw it in the dumpster is a new low,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “The fact that McNerney continues to embrace and defend his failed Democrat agenda only demonstrates that he is still unwilling to embrace the pro-growth reform needed to finally get America back to work.”
Just last week, a local television station caught workers at the Solyndra plant literally throwing taxpayer-funded equipment in the dumpster:
At Solyndra’s sprawling complex in Fremont, workers in white jumpsuits were unwrapping brand new glass tubes used in solar panels last week. They are the latest, most cutting-edge solar technology, and they are being thrown into dumpsters.”
(“Bankrupt Solyndra Caught Destroying Brand New Parts,” CBS San Francisco, 1/19/12)Amazingly, Solyndra is also proposing additional bonuses for employees despite going bankrupt and leaving taxpayers on the hook with a $535 million loan guarantee:
Nearly two dozen Solyndra employees could receive bonuses ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 each under a proposal filed by Solyndra’s attorneys in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware.
” (Jim McElhatton, “Bankrupt Solyndra seeking to pay bonuses,” The Washington Times, 1/11/12)Once the Democrats’ poster child for their $800 billion stimulus package, Solyndra now highlights how Jerry McNerney’s stimulus failed miserably to create the jobs promised for the extraordinary price tag. Now McNerney’s constituents in California will have to wonder how he can justify his support for the stimulus when it is literally throwing their hard-earned tax dollars away.
