Cheri Tales Chapter 4: A Lesson In Job-Destroying and Budget Deficits

January 27, 2012

Welcome to the fourth chapter of Cheri Tales, a collection of stories and fables about a politician who will say and do anything to get elected. The tales focus on Cheri Bustos, a Democrat candidate running in IL-17. In this chapter, we will explore Cheri’s economic record which is a Cautionary Tale.

While Cheri likes to gloat about her “new leadership that will put people’s interests first” and her “record of success in East Moline,” the reality is that her political aspirations have cost Illinois families jobs.

CHERI TALES: “I am proud of the record of success in East Moline over the past 4 ½ years. We’ve made strides in economic development and infrastructure improvement while balancing our budget.” (Cheri Bustos for Congress Facbook Page, Accessed 12/22/2011)

REALITY: Under Cheri’s watch the unemployment rate in East Moline grew from 4.3% to 7.4% and she left East Moline with a $1 million anticipated budget deficit. (Sources: East Moline Comprehensive Financial Report, 4/30/2011; Quad City Times, 10/24/2011)

NRCC COMMENT: “Illinois families are going to have a hard enough time reversing Bustos job-destroying legacy in East Moline, why would they want to send her to Washington?” – NRCC Spokeswoman Andrea Bozek
