And the Winner Is…Kissell’s Democrat Donors Instead of American Workers Who Want Keystone XL Jobs
North Carolina Democrat Voted to Appease Hollywood Activists at the Cost of Desperately Needed Middle-Class Manufacturing Jobs

Washington — Creating jobs and promoting economic growth is still the top concern of middle-class families in North Carolina during a shaky economy, but Larry Kissell has been actively blocking shovel-ready manufacturing jobs simply to appease the Democrats’ activist donor base (Roll Call #923, 12/13/11). Kissell continues to demonstrate that the jobs he is most concerned with are Democrats in Washington who are being confronted with their record of blocking job creation and putting the country on the path to fiscal ruin.

“Larry Kissell may be vying for President Obama’s Best Supporting Actor as he continues help block 20,000 shovel-ready Keystone pipeline jobs in order to appease Democrat donors in Hollywood,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Kissell and his fellow Washington Democrats continue to promote policies that protect their own jobs while punishing small businesses and families looking for work.”

The number of people who have given up on looking for work is at its highest level in nearly 30 years, a reminder that many hurdles remain on the road to economic recovery:

“Friday’s report showed January’s labor participation rate dropped another 0.3 percentage point and is now standing at 63.7 percent, the lowest level since May 1983. The decline in unemployment rate is partly due to more people giving up the hope of a job and simply dropping out of the workforce.” (Moran Zhang, “Unemployment Falls to 8.3% in January; Payrolls Surge 243,000,” International Business Times, 2/3/12)

But Democrats decided appeasing Hollywood donors was more important than creating 20,000 shovel-ready jobs and promoting energy security:

“For greens, the fact that the Keystone pipeline was back on the table five weeks after Obama had seemingly punted it until 2013 is causing considerable heartburn with an administration that hasn’t been as green as they once wished.

“Their initial win looked even better because it came just days after thousands circled the White House at a weekend protest that drew celebrity faces like actor Mark Ruffalo. But now Obama’s environmental allies again face the question of whether to withhold support for his reelection campaign.” (Darren Samuelsohn, “Greens call out Keystone XL deal,” Politico, 12/16/11)

Despite the continuing shaky economy, Larry Kissell demonstrates he is mostly concerned with keeping his own job even if it means destroying thousands of manufacturing job opportunities along the way. In rejecting the Keystone pipeline and its 20,000 shovel ready jobs, Kissell put the needs of wealthy Hollywood donors ahead of job creation and economic recovery.
