Loebsack Opposes Common-Sense Solutions to End Wasteful Washington Spending
Iowa Democrat Votes Against Efforts to Identify Underused Federal Properties and Potentially Save Billions of Taxpayer Dollars

Washington — As the national debt skyrockets well above $15 trillion, Dave Loebsack continues to defend and promote the Democrats’ endless spending spree that is wasting the taxpayers’ hard-earned money. Loebsack today even refused to support a common-sense approach to having the federal government live within its means that was based on some of President Obama’s own fiscal commission’s recommendations (Roll Call #38, 2/7/12).

“Dave Loebsack today demonstrated that he is simply not willing to relent from his Democrat spending spree after it helped drive the national debt well beyond $15 trillion,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “When offered a common-sense solution to help the government finally live within its means, Loebsack stood with his Democrat leaders in Washington to continue the endless spending and borrowing that ignores the concerns of the forgotten American taxpayer.”

The Civilian Property Realignment Act could potentially save taxpayers billions of dollars a year by weeding out waste:

“The House on Tuesday backed legislation to sell off or consolidate some of the thousands of underused or unneeded federal buildings, potentially saving taxpayers billions of dollars.

The House bill takes its cue from past efforts to close military bases, setting up a commission that would make recommendations on streamlining federal property that Congress could either accept or reject, but could not alter.” (Jim Abrams, “House seeks to unload unneeded government property,” Associated Press, 2/7/12)

Dave Loebsack remains committed to the Democrat spending spree that continues to pile on trillions of dollars in debt on to middle-class families for generations to come. If Loebsack is unwilling to embrace common-sense solutions like the Civilian Property Realignment Act, then he is certainly unable to take the bold steps necessary to get America’s fiscal outlook back on track.
