The McIntyre-Obama Energy Record: Yes to Solyndra Bankruptcy, No to American-Made Energy
North Carolina Democrat’s Approach to Energy Policy Shows Washington Priorities are Quashing Real Opportunities for Jobs and Energy Independence

WASHINGTON — As Democrats struggle to deflect blame for their failing energy strategy, Mike McIntyre and President Obama are conspicuously ignoring the harm their politically motivated actions have done to hard-working taxpayers and small businesses paying more at the pump.

“Mike McIntyre’s big-government energy policies may please wealthy Democrat donors, but hard-working taxpayers and small businesses in North Carolina are the ones left struggling with soaring prices at the gas pump,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “After they gambled away taxpayer dollars on failing companies like Solyndra and rejected the Keystone pipeline, McIntyre and President Obama are left with a record of destroyed jobs and rejected opportunities for badly needed energy independence.”

President Obama scrambled yesterday to defend his failed energy policies as gas prices skyrocket and burden working families and small businesses:

“As Republican presidential candidates toss barbs at Barack Obama over expensive gasoline, the U.S. president and his team are going on the offensive with a strategy to divert blame and prepare voters for higher costs.” (Jeff Mason, “Obama goes on offense over high gasoline prices,” Reuters, 2/23/12)

The Democrats’ signature energy policies consistently place Washington politics before middle-class families:

“Meant to create jobs and cut reliance on foreign oil, Obama’s green-technology program was infused with politics at every level, The Washington Post found in an analysis of thousands of memos, company records and internal e-mails. Political considerations were raised repeatedly by company investors, Energy Department bureaucrats and White House officials.” (Joe Stephens and Carol D. Leonnig, “Solyndra: Politics Infused Obama Energy Programs,” The Washington Post, 12/25/11)

“Democrats outside the West Wing and Chicago-based campaign say the politics were clear: With the exceptions of the grousing unions (who will have no choice but to support him in 2012), the party’s donor base, environmental advocates down to their hybrid SUVs oppose the pipeline.” (Glenn Thrush and Darren Samuelsohn, “Keystone decision a political win-win,” Politico, 1/18/12)
