Bishop Clings to the Democrats’ Government Takeover of Healthcare Even With Costs Doubling and Consequences Escalating
New York Democrat’s Defense of the Big-Government Healthcare Law Marred by Broken Promises

WASHINGTON — Tim Bishop’s defense of the Democrats’ government takeover of healthcare continues to attract criticism after a new report from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) puts the price tag for the law at nearly double what had been advertised. In addition to the soaring costs, millions more will be forced off their current healthcare plans than previously indicated by Democrats who falsely promised “if you like your health plan you can keep it.”

“Instead of repealing the disastrous government takeover of healthcare, Tim Bishop actually voted to keep it in spite of the majority of American voters who wanted to see it repealed,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Bishop’s decision to keep the big-government takeover only looks worse as it costs taxpayers their hard-earned money and denies families their current healthcare plans.”

A CBO report revealed the Democrats’ government takeover of healthcare will cost nearly double what Democrats suggested:

“President Obama’s national health care law will cost $1.76 trillion over a decade, according to a new projection released today by the Congressional Budget Office, rather than the $940 billion forecast when it was signed into law.” (Phillip A. Klein, “CBO: Obamacare to cost $1.76 trillion over 10 yrs,” The Washington Examiner‘s Beltway Confidential Blog, 3/13/12)

It will also force more families off their current healthcare plan and on to government-run programs instead:

“It’s also worth noting that we were told time and again during the health care debate that the law didn’t represent a government takeover of health care. But by 2022, according to the CBO, 3 million fewer people will have health insurance through their employer, while 17 million Americans will be added to Medicaid and 22 million will be getting coverage through government-run exchanges.” (Phillip A. Klein, “CBO: Obamacare to cost $1.76 trillion over 10 yrs,” The Washington Examiner‘s Beltway Confidential Blog, 3/13/12)
