California Democrat’s Health Insurance Tax Would Particularly Impact Small Businesses Already Struggling in the Bad Economy
WASHINGTON — Jerry McNerney continues to defend the government takeover of healthcare (Roll Call #14, 1/19/11), even though it is poised to destroy up to 11,500 California jobs and cost businesses $14.6 billion in lost sales, with a large majority of this burden falling on small businesses. McNerney makes it clear that he will stand up for President Obama’s failing big-government policies even at the cost of jobs and economic recovery.
“Jerry McNerney’s continued defense of his government takeover of healthcare and its taxes on small businesses is putting thousands of jobs in California at risk,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Instead of helping small businesses create jobs and grow the economy, McNerney’s big-government policies are actually placing the largest burden on them with more taxes and red tape.”
In California, it is estimated that the Health Insurance Tax provision of the government takeover of healthcare could destroy 11,500 jobs and result in $14.6 billion in lost revenues. Nationally, these taxes would have a devastating effect on the economy, hitting small businesses particularly hard:
