ObamaCare: No Graduation Gift For College Students
Student Health Care Premiums To Skyrocket, Many Schools Discontinuing Health Plans Altogether
Nancy Pelosi Promised ObamaCare Would Bring Affordable Coverage For College Students:
“Just think of it – the difference that the passage of this legislation will make to young people – as they graduate from college with health insurance, they can follow their dreams…we take them a long way down the path of some independence, some liberation to follow their aspirations right out of school…health care will always be affordable to them.” (Pelosi Announces Key Provision in Health Insurance Reform for Young Adults,” Office of Nancy Pelosi, 10/13/09)
Yet ObamaCare’s Onerous Regulations Are Causing Premiums To Soar As Much As 50%, Prompting Many Schools To Drop Their Student Health Insurance Offerings Entirely:
“College health plans…are also expected to become more costly as they accommodate the benefit requirements of the health law. A few schools have had their prices rise so much that they have decided to drop their health plans altogether….Many plans that provide limited coverage are raising their premiums as much as 50 percent to comply with the new law’s requirements for coverage, according to Stephen Beckley, a student insurance consultant and co-organizer of the Lookout Mountain Group, an organization of college health professionals.” (Christian Torres, “Health insurance options for college students,” The Washington Post, 6/18/12)
