Patrick Murphy – Supports Failed Energy Policies

June 25, 2012

Today, President Obama will talk energy policy at the University of Miami amid skyrocketing gas prices in a futile attempt to shore up votes in the state this November. With recent headlines like “Gas Prices are Highest Ever for This Time of Year”, and “Oil jumps to 9 month high…” Floridians are wondering – just how bad are things going to get?

Patrick Murphy is running for Congress to support more of Obama’s failed energy policies. They should be doing everything possible to increase domestic energy production, improve energy security and advocate for sensible regulations to help middle-class families get relief at the pump. Instead Murphy and Obama are fighting for more stimulus style giveaways – like Solyndra – that have already cost taxpayers billions.

As you cover the President’s visit, please consider the following:

NRCC Comment: “Patrick Murphy probably doesn’t know that a gallon of gas costs $3.68, so it unsurprising he supports President Obama’s disastrous energy policies which continue to hurt Floridians. Since Murphy is running for Congress to be a rubber-stamp for President Obama’s failed agenda, will he be at Obama’s side in Miami today?” -NRCC Spokesman Nathaniel Sillin

GREEN GROUPS THREATENED TO ABANDON OBAMA IF HE APPROVED KEYSTONE: “Environmental groups have been protesting the pipeline that would run from Alberta oil sands to Texas refineries, and there have been rumblings that greens would abandon Obama next fall if he approved it.” (Dan Berman and Darren Goode, “Obama Punts Keystone XL Pipeline,” Politico, 11/10/2011)

ENERGY SECRETARY STEPHEN CHU IN SEPTEMBER 2008: “SOMEHOW WE HAVE TO FIGURE HOW TO BOOST THE PRICE OF GASOLINE TO THE LEVELS IN EUROPE”: “ ‘Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,’ Mr. Chu, who directs the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal in September.” (Neil King, Jr. and Stephen Power, “Times Tough for Energy Overhaul,” The Wall Street Journal, 12/12/2008)

OBAMA WANTED ENERGY PRICES TO “NECESSARILY SKYROCKET” UNDER HIS CAP-AND-TRADE PLAN: “ ‘Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket,’ Obama told the Chronicle. ‘Coal-powered plans, you know, natural gas, you name it, whatever the plans were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.” (Catherine Richert, “Pence Claims that Obama said Energy Costs Will Skyrocket with a Cap-and-Trade Plan,” PolitiFact.com, 6/11/2009)

Obama Continues Throwing Hundreds of Millions into Solyndra-Like Companies While Rejecting Policies that Would Relieve Americans of Sky-High Gas Prices…
Washington Times (2/20, The Editorial Board) writes that, “Here we go again. Gasoline prices are rising rapidly and already have shattered the $4-a-gallon mark in California. Industry analysts say the all-time national average record of $4.11 could be shattered this summer. Some stations in Los Angeles are charging $4.93. Americans hired Barack Obama in 2008 partly in hope of finding relief from that summer’s pain at the pump. As the agony returns, voters could be primed by November to pull the lever for anybody but Barack.”
