Paul Hirschbiel Virginia’s very own pay-to-play politician

June 25, 2012

Today, hedge fund manager Paul Hirschbiel is announcing his candidacy for Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District. So who is Paul Hirschbiel, and what does he stand for?

Hirschbiel has described himself as a “social progressive”, and he’s been vocally supportive of big-government policies including Obamacare, yet he has a long history of donating campaign money to conservative Republicans. Governor Bob McDonnell, Governor Mitt Romney and President George W. Bush aren’t exactly social progressives. So why the contributions?

Well, when asked about his frequent and substantial campaign contributions, Hirschbiel “said he felt that campaign donations helped gain access to people in power.” Wow, money for access?! If Hirschbiel is elected, what will be his price of admission?
