Tim Manchin will not run in WV-01

June 25, 2012

After Democrats failed to win the race for West Virginia’s 1st District in 2010, potential Democrat nominee Tim Manchin today announced that he will not run for the seat. Please consider the following statement from the National Republican Congressional Committee as you cover Manchin’s decision not to run for West Virginia’s 1st District:

NRCC COMMENT: "When the Democrats can’t recruit a Manchin to run in West Virginia, you don’t need any more evidence that this seat has gone from a 1-point race in 2010 to unwinnable for Democrats in 2012. It is a testament to Congressman McKinley’s unwavering advocacy of West Virginia’s energy resources, independence and track record of accomplishments on behalf of the 1st District.” – NRCC Spokesman Nat Sillin

Tim Manchin denies Web report that he’ll seek 1st District seat. “On Dec. 20, Politico.com reported Delegate Tim Manchin, D-Marion, had met with leaders from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee about running for the Democratic nod in the 1st Congressional District. Manchin said that is accurate, but after a lot of thought over the holidays, he just can’t do it at this time.” (Times West Virginian, 1/10/11)
