Gary McDowell won’t let Michigan seniors retire with dignity
On the campaign trail Gary McDowell is being dishonest with voters. He is claiming he wants “save our retirement” by ensuring people can “retire with dignity” and “know that Social Security and Medicare are going to be there for them.” What Gary McDowell isn’t telling voters is that he supports President Obama and Nancy Pelosi’s healthcare overhaul which will ensure a future of imploding debt, higher healthcare costs and $500 billion in Medicare cuts for Michigan seniors.
“But McDowell defends the Obama plan, which was in danger of failing until Stupak delivered a handful of votes from House Democrats who had feared it would allow federal funding of abortions” (John Flesher, “GOP tries to seize opportunity with Stupak gone,” Associated Press, Oct. 17, 2010)
“Gary McDowell supports the new health care law, that would cut $500 billion from Medicare and empower unelected bureaucrats to make decisions that could deny care and increase costs for seniors”. (Robert Pear, “Classic Candidate Differences Present a Stark Choice,” The New York Times, Oct. 13, 2010; Who ended ‘Medicare as we know it’?, New York Post, 5/24/11/; David Nather, “Medicare cost-cutting job could be worst in D.C.,” Politico, 5/14/2011)
Gary McDowell’s support of Nancy Pelosi’s healthcare overhaul will allow for 2013 tax hikes including an average tax increase for Michiganders that will be $2,801 per tax return and a total of $14.307 billion for the entire state beginning in 2013. NRCC Statement: “Northern Michigan families will not be able to retire with dignity if Gary McDowell is sent to Congress. His plan to raid Medicare and hurt our seniors will destroy any chance of Michiganders having peace of mind when it comes to the future. The only way to ensure Michigan seniors are protected is to once again reject Gary McDowell.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Katie Prill
