Playing Politics With Our Seniors

August 12, 2012

Gary McDowell is trying to play it conservative this election cycle but the families of Northern Michigan are not buying it. Yesterday on Facebook, McDowell professed his deep concern for “the future of Medicare” for our seniors after the Supreme Court ruled on Obamacare. But Gary McDowell must think we all have forgotten about his last run for Congress and his issue with protecting our seniors when they need us most. Why would Gary McDowell feel this way you ask? Because seniors cost too much money at the end of life.

“We’re not going to be able to provide for all the other things in life that we need to do first as a society because we are taking so much money for health care at the end of life” (McDowell comments at a town hall in 2010)

Gary’s hypocrisy doesn’t end there. His Obamacare cuts $500 billion dollars from Medicare which will devastate the program for our seniors who rely on it every day.

“It would cut an additional $60 billion from Medicare, bringing total cuts to the program to more than $500 billion over the next 10 years. And it would delay a tax on high-cost insurance polices [sic] until 2018, replacing the lost revenue by imposing the Medicare payroll tax on investment income for families earning more than $250,000 a year.” (Washington Post, March 24, 2010)

NRCC Statement: “Gary McDowell is behaving like a career politician. We all know that Gary thinks our seniors cost too much and that they ruin healthcare for the rest of us. Why doesn’t Gary McDowell stand by his position and admit he supports ObamaCare’s drastic Medicare cuts.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Katie Prill
