Sutton’s War on Energy Forcing Over 200 American Coal Plants to Close, 30 in Ohio Alone
Democrat-Supported EPA Regulations Crush Energy Production and Will Destroy Ohio Jobs
WASHINGTON — Even with unemployment above 8 percent for 43 consecutive months, Betty Sutton voted to keep job-killing EPA regulations, dooming any hopes for American energy independence (Roll Call #603, 9/21/2012). A new study proves that Sutton’s EPA regulations will force 30 coal plants in Ohio alone to shut down within the next several years.
“Betty Sutton and her party claim they champion an all-the-above energy policy, but in their case ‘all-the-above’ means opposing any energy that is produced below ground,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “These hyper-regulatory energy policies are suffocating American energy production and killing jobs. The closing of 30 coal-fired plants in Ohio alone is further proof that the Democrats’ war on energy is destroying American jobs.”
Thirty coal-fired energy plants will close in Ohio due to Democrat-backed EPA regulations with over 200 plants nationwide set to shutdown. (Michael Bastasch, “Report: More than 200 coal-fired generators slated for shutdown,” The Daily Caller, 9/21/2012)
The coal industry directly provides over half a million American jobs. (“The Economic Contributions of U.S. Mining,” PriceWaterhouseCoopers for National Mining Association, October 2010)
Washington Democrats claim they have championed an all the above energy policy:
“President Obama on Wednesday proposed sweetened tax incentives and subsidies to spur the market for alternative-power cars and trucks, promoting his ‘all of the above’ energy strategy while warning against other politicians’ ‘quick fixes’ to the latest spike in gasoline prices.” (Jackie Calmes, “President Pushes to Add More Credits for Hybrids,” The New York Times, 3/8/12)
