what not to do

September 24, 2012

In case you missed this playing out over the last few days,  Congressman John Tierney is running a clinic on how not to handle a scandal.

Last week:

NECN [VIDEO]:  “Tierney and Tisei agree to debates but Tierney wants limits”

BOSTON HERALD:  “John Tierney’s rules of debate,  Rep moves to bar questions on relatives’ gambling ring”

BOSTON GLOBE: “Tierney’s campaign sought conditions before agreeing to two of four upcoming debates with his opponents…Tierney nearly withdrew from a debate set for next Thursday after learning the format included time for candidates to pose questions to one another.”

Now this today:

BOSTON HERALD:  “Rep. Tierney reverses course, will take gambling questions… Tierney declared this morning he’ll take questions about his law-breaking family head-on when he debates”

Why did Tierney refuse to face his constituents and have an open and honest dialogue about issues of public trust?
