Remember When: One Year Since Obama’s Jobs Council Last Met

January 18, 2013

jobs council It’s been a trying week for the Obama administration. First they saw their prized legislative achievement—government takeover of healthcare—crumble further under higher insurance premiums and a “mandate-plus.” Then we saw a spurned lover from their past—the Keystone XL pipeline—come back after being rejected one year ago to ask for a second chance.

Now we celebrate a different anniversary: the last time President Obama met with his jobs council.

“The group, formally known as the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, last convened on Jan. 17, 2012 for a White House session where it presented formal recommendations to Obama. It was the panel’s fourth official meeting since it was created in early 2011.

“A spokesman for Jobs Council chairman Jeffrey Immelt, who’s the CEO of General Electric, referred questions about the panel’s future to the White House.

“A White House spokeswoman had no comment Thursday.”

7.8 percent unemployment and the best they could do is “no comment.”

The Jobs Council is set to expire at the end of the month, unless President Obama renews it.
