Kerry’s Greatest Hits

Today, President Obama’s nominee for Secretary of State John Kerry appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

As you may not know, Kerry has had a distinguished diplomatic career. Just in case you forgot, here’s a sampling of his finest moments…

1. Kerry Claims Unnamed World Leaders Want Him Elected President (2004)

Back in the heat of the 2004 presidential campaign, John Kerry commented at a March event in Florida that a series of unnamed world leaders approached him and said they secretly supported him.

“I’ve met more leaders who can’t go out and say this publicly, but boy, they look at you and say, ‘You got to win this. You got to beat this guy.”

When The White House challenged Kerry to name names, he fell remarkably silent.

2. Kerry: “If You Don’t [Study Hard In School], You Get Stuck In Iraq” (2006)

While Kerry was campaigning for candidates in 2006, he made the following off the cuff comment about studying hard in school and what happens if you don’t.

“Education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

Kerry was later forced to apologize.

3. Kerry Opposes The Gulf War

In 1991, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and the world sprung into action. Congress swiftly passed resolutions authorizing the Gulf War with vast bipartisan support…except for John Kerry.

Kerry voted against the resolution and accused President George H.W. Bush of trying to create a “new world order.”

4. “I Actually Did Vote For The $87 Billion, Before I Voted Against It”

The granddaddy of all Kerry’s foreign policy missteps. He actually claimed that he voted for $87 billion in appropriations for Iraq and Afghanistan before he voted against it. This statement, made at a Huntington, West Virginia forum, both confused the masses and cemented his foreign policy naivete.
