Give Senate Dems 4 Years, All You’ll Get Is An Unbalanced Budget Full Of Higher Taxes And More Spending

  • Senate Democrats are getting ready to try and pass their first budget in 4 years. We now see what they’ve been up to.

  • Not only does their budget never balance, but it actually increases taxes by $1 trillion and includes $100 billion in new stimulus spending.

  • This new proposal will hurt middle-class families and further endanger our country’s fiscal stability.

  • The choice couldn’t be clearer: A Republican plan that cuts spending and balances the budget or Democrats’ proposal that never balances and even includes a new stimulus and higher taxes.

Senator Murray’s Budget Includes $100 Billion In New Stimulus Spending. “But since Murray’s budget also sets aside $100 billion for economic stimulus measures — $50 billion on repairing highest transportation priorities, $10 billion on projects of major regional importance and the rest on other items like worker training — the total savings will be measured at $1.85 trillion.” (Sam Stein, “Senate Democrats’ Budget Includes $1.85 Trillion In Savings Through Mix Of Tax Increases, Spending Cuts,” The Huffington Post, 3/12/13)

Politico: “Patty Murray Budget: $1 Trillion In New Revenue” (Manu Raju, “Patty Murray Budget: $1 Trillion In New Revenue,” Politico, 3/12/13)

Murray’s Budget Also Would Not Balance The Budget—Unlike Paul Ryan’s Plan. “The Murray plan would not balance the budget in a 10-year timeframe like the Ryan proposal, which calls for $4.63 trillion in deficit savings over 10 years.” (Manu Raju, “Patty Murray Budget: $1 Trillion In New Revenue,” Politico, 3/12/13)

Senate Democrats Last Passed A Budget On April 29, 2009. “The Senate last passed a traditional budget on April 29, 2009, and lawmakers have relied on short-term stopgap measures to fund the federal government’s operations since the measure expired.” (Chris Moody, “House Republicans To Senate Democrats: Pass A Budget And We’ll Increase The Debt Limit,” Yahoo News, 1/18/13)
