Colbert Busch Fails to Respond to South Carolina Families Over Campaigning on Taxpayer-Funded Salary

April 4, 2013

Just yesterday we told you about how Elizabeth Colbert Busch has spent the last 2½ months campaigning for Congress while collecting a taxpayer-funded paycheck from Clemson University. It’s been 24 hours and Colbert Busch has given no response to South Carolina families as to why she is using their hard earned money to campaign for Congress.

Originally she told reporters and South Carolina families that she was on a leave of absence since February but this week we found out that her “leave” is actually a taxpayer-funded vacation. The AP Reported on February 16, 2013: “She is now on a leave of absence from her position as the director of business development for Clemson University’s Wind Turbine Drive Testing Facility in North Charleston.”

But the Mount Pleasant Patch reported on April 2, 2013: “For the first two-and-a-half months of her candidacy Colbert Busch was technically on vacation from her job with Clemson, but she doesn’t appear to have garnered too much beach time. She’s been fine-tuning her policy points.”

Link to Colbert Busch’s personal financial disclosure form which shows her vacation time expiring on March 27, 2013 from the university.

For South Carolina families there are a lot of unanswered questions when it comes to Colbert Busch’s disregard for taxpayer money. As you cover her deafening silence on this issue, please consider the following questions and quote:

1.)    When did Colbert Busch start her vacation leave from Clemson?

2.)    How much money did Colbert Busch make from Clemson while campaigning for Congress?

3.)    Why did Colbert Busch try to deceive voters about her work status?

4.)    Does Colbert Busch think it was appropriate to collect her taxpayer funded salary while not showing up for work?

Elizabeth Colbert Busch has shown a complete disregard for South Carolinians’ hard earned money by campaigning on the taxpayers’ dime. After misleading voters for over two months about her work status – it’s time Colbert Busch is held accountable and explains why taxpayers are footing the bill for her political aspirations.
