Polling Memo: ObamaCare Worries

May 8, 2013

ObamaCare: Remember When?

Remember when President Obama said this:

June 15, 2009:  “So let me begin by saying this to you and to the American people….If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. … If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period. … No one will take it away, no matter what.”1

Then nine months later he said this:

March 23, 2010: “This legislation will also lower costs for families and for businesses and for the federal government, reducing our deficit by over $1 trillion in the next two decades. It is paid for. It is fiscally responsible.”2

Today, voters seriously doubt the promises President Obama made over 3 years ago.

While President Obama claimed his Healthcare legislation would lower costs for Americans, 7 in 10 voters (72%) are worried about the cost of their health insurance going up.  And, despite Obama saying you can keep your doctor and healthcare plan under ObamaCare, 62% are worried about doctor’s choice and think they won’t be able to receive care from their preferred physician followed by another 57% who fear they won’t have the ability to keep their current plan.

Oh, and remember that part about it being “fiscally responsible?”  The current US national debt is $16.8 trillion.  That’s $4.1 trillion more than it was on March 23, 2010.  One can’t help but think ObamaCare will not make that better.
