Mike McIntyre uses taxpayer money to travel the world

May 14, 2013

Our country is almost $17 trillion in debt and North Carolina families are trying hard to make ends meet while the tax burden becomes bigger thanks to the politicians in Washington. travel

What is Mike McIntyre doing about all of this?

Nothing. He is busy traveling to Asia on the taxpayers’ dime.

McIntyre’s travel came under fire this week after the Wilmington Star News reported about the lack of transparency that comes with these types of congressional excursions. While his constituents are facing a tough economy, paying too much in taxes and worrying about the debt being handed down to future generations, McIntyre took a first class 7-day trip to Asia funded by North Carolina families.

Since being elected to Congress in 1996, McIntyre has taken at least 15 publicly-funded foreign trips, costing taxpayers thousands. Some of the luxurious locations include – Italy, Portugal, France, Greece, Ireland – the list goes on and on.

This isn’t the first time McIntyre has come under fire for his wasteful ways with taxpayer money, but it seems he just doesn’t care:

Wilmington Star News: McIntyre takes heat over taxpayer-funded trip to Europe, July 3, 2011

Huffington Post: Rep. Mike McIntyre taking taxpayer-funded trip to Rome, June 24, 2011

Taxpayer.net: McIntyre logged 78 spending requests totaling $218 million for 2011, January 2, 2011

These questions now remain for McIntyre:

1.)    Does he think it’s appropriate to be spending North Carolina’s hard earned money so he can travel first class around the world?
2.)    Seeing there is a lack of transparency when it comes to the cost of these trips, will McIntyre tell North Carolinians how much was spent on his 7-day trip to Asia?

Mike McIntyre’s extravagant lifestyle while in Congress makes the winning prize on the Price Is Right’s Showcase Showdown look lackluster. While North Carolinians are working hard to make ends meet, politician Mike McIntyre is raising their taxes in Washington so he can continue travelling first class around the world at the taxpayers’ expense.
