We’ve Heard This All Before: Obama’s Repeated Promises On Regulations Ring Hollow
As an attempt to deflect attention from his signature healthcare law’s repeated failures, President Obama took to the podium today to announce his grand plan for a “smarter government.”
In what’s apparently become a yearly event, Obama announces a plan to cut regulations, yet fails to truly follow through.
“President Barack Obama called Monday on Congress to give him the authority to reorganize executive branch agencies, as he outlined a vision for greater government efficiency that he’s repeated throughout his term.”

“[W]e are also making it our mission to root out regulations that conflict, that are not worth the cost, or that are just plain dumb.”
But he’s already had four and a half years. And he hasn’t gotten the job done. In fact, he’s simply added more burdensome regulations.
Just a few weeks ago, he introduced his new plan to raise energy costs for consumers through a host of new regulations. It was reported over the weekend that the EPA is planning on going “far beyond” what Obama proposed.
And of course no discussion on regulations could be complete without talking about the “train wreck” of a law referenced earlier.
ObamaCare’s regulations are the stuff of legend. The Washington Post’s Fact Checker Glenn Kessler wrote, “at the very least, one can point to 10,000 pages of tiny regulatory type regarding the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.”
In fact, Senator Mitch McConnell has taken to hauling around a “red tape tower.” It even has its own twitter account and has become a concrete symbol of President Obama’s new regulations.
President Obama can make all the hollow promises he wants on cutting red tape. But we’ve heard all this before.
