In Too Deep – – UPDATE

July 9, 2013

Wow. That didn’t take long.

I wanted to make sure you saw the latest update in the Scott Peters/Bob Filner corruption mess.

It seems that Peters realized that continuing to align himself with Mayor Filner would bring nothing but bad news and bad politics to his office. He’s since deleted the press release that was originally sent out last year once Filner endorsed him for the House.

But perhaps Peters has forgotten a key component of the World Wide Web – press releases may come and go, but things on the internet live forever. Check out the original copy of the release here.

When covering this story, please considering the following statement:

NRCC Statement: “Scott Peters knows he’s in hot water by aligning himself with Mayor Bob Filner – and it’s no surprise that he’s trying to cover his tracks. Peters owes his constituents an explanation and assurance that his office hasn’t been tainted by Filner’s corrupt actions.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Danielle Varallo

Well, it seems that Congressman Scott Peters has stumbled into in a bit of a sticky situation. His friend and endorsement companion, San Diego Mayor Bob Filner has found himself in the middle of a federal investigation regarding a $100,000 donation made to the city just this year.

Corruption

And where has Peters been during all of this? Absolutely quiet.

After a voicemail was left at a San Diego city office last month suggesting that there was “An agreement with the Mayor’s office. We have paid him the money that was requested and I was told that the mayor would support the [veto] override,” federal officials began to look into the exchange to see exactly what the money had been supporting.

It turns out that Filner had vetoed changes to a project that would have benefitted Sunroad Centrum Partners, but allegedly withdrew his veto after receiving money from the Sunroad company.

Filner has been dodging questions for the past week regarding his alleged pay off, and it’s becoming clear that he has found himself in quite the hotbed of corruption.

Peters should condemn these actions and make it clear to California voters that he, regardless of his professional relationship with Filner, is appalled by the Mayor’s way of doing business.

Where are you, Scott Peters? How long have you known about this? And if you did know, is there a type of “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” scenario going on with the Mayor and Peters’ Congressional office?

As you cover this developing story, please consider the following statement:

NRCC Statement: “Scott Peters should know better than to continue supporting Mayor Filner and his camp of corruption. He should condemn these actions immediately, and California voters deserve to know the truth about how deep and how far this corruption really goes.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Danielle Varallo
