Congressman Scott Peters Remains Silent Despite Mayoral Scandal Brewing in San Diego
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, the trouble brewing in California for Mayor Bob Filner and Congressman Scott Peters continues to build.
Earlier this week, Peters refused to condemn or comment on Filner’s actions after it was reported that as the Mayor he had accepted $100,000 from a California-based company in return for a veto override.
Peters and the Mayor are endorsement companions, and has flip-flopped this week on whether or not to keep Filner’s endorsement up on his campaign webpage.
Now, it’s been reported that Mayor Filner has had sexual harassment allegations brought against him from a number of women. A number of city officials and councilmen and women have called on him to resign. And where has Filner’s buddy, Scott Peters, been during all of this?
Completely silent.
It’s unacceptable that Peters refuses to speak up about Filner’s disgusting behavior.
Will Scott Peters call on Mayor Filner to resign? When will he condemn his irresponsible and hurtful actions? Now is not the time for silence – and Peters has been silent for too long.
When covering this developing story, please consider the following statement:
NRCC Statement: “Scott Peters should be embarrassed to continue aligning himself with scandal-ridden San Diego Mayor Bob Filner. He should be calling on Filner to resign and apologize for his actions immediately. The longer he waits to speak up about Filner’s actions, the longer voters are left without answers as to who is he really standing up for in Washington.”– NRCC Spokeswoman Danielle Varallo
