5 Pieces of “Baggage” the President Isn’t Taking With Him to Martha’s Vineyard

August 12, 2013

President Obama is off this week to Martha’s Vineyard for a lavish, presidential vacation (even First Dog Bo was airlifted for the special occasion!)

“Obviously, when you’re President of the United States, you carry a little baggage when you travel,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said. That may be true, but we can think of at least five pieces of baggage – his political ones – President Obama won’t be taking with him to Martha’s Vineyard.

1. His Approval Rating

Even though there might be room on Air Force One to pack President Obama’s approval rating – at 42%, it’s pretty small – he’ll be leaving that behind as he leaves Washington for the week. Don’t worry, it will be waiting for him when he comes back!

2. ObamaCare

Just because President Obama is leaving Washington behind doesn’t mean that the ObamaCare train wreck isn’t running full steam ahead. As families are losing health coverage and prices are going up, ObamaCare isn’t turning out to be the winner Democrats thought it would be. The President might be able to escape the stress of ObamaCare for a week in Martha’s Vineyard, but millions of Americans have to deal with the effects of the Democrats’ health law everyday.

3. The Benghazi Scandal

Even CNN last week declared that the White House is being “inconsistent” on its claims about the  Benghazi attacks. While it’s understandable to leave some scandal behind while he goes on vacation, more questions will be waiting for the President when he returns.

4.The Bad Economy

It doesn’t matter where you go on vacation, Mr. President – the economy is still terrible. While you’re away, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will be worrying about “suffering double-digit losses” in the House if the economy falters further. Enjoy the luxury of Martha’s Vineyard while you can, because that 7.4% unemployment rate will still be hanging over our heads when you get back.

5. A Decision on Keystone

Will President Obama make a decision on the Keystone pipeline while he’s away in Martha’s Vineyard? Probably not – he’ll leave that baggage behind too. Even the Washington Post recently gave him two Pinocchios on his latest excuse for delaying the Keystone Pipeline. Considering that a majority of Americans support the Keystone project and want to see U.S. energy independence, it’s no wonder the President has been avoiding his delay of this project.
